(Am I the only one who hears that greeting in Dory’s voice when Bruce the Shark shows up in Finding Nemo? You’re hearing it now; aren’t you?)
You’re probably wondering who I am and why I’m offering these services.
And I’m here to tell you: on the surface, I’m no one special.
I’m a published poet. I’ve been writing on a typewriter and in notebooks since I was about six. I’m a wife, I have one son and one daughter, and I have two cuddly cats. I love books and take one with me wherever I go (yes, even to parties), which sometimes means carrying a second book when I only have a few chapters left. I love love, and my family, and movies, and friends, and the simple things.
I’m a pretty simple lady, truth be told. It doesn’t take a lot to make me happy, and those things that I love most, I am passionate about.
But here’s where I’m a little different:
I took my passions and turned them into something bigger.
I took what I loved and figured out how to use it to help other people.
Which is where you come in!
If you’re struggling to keep your passions at the front of the line, I’ve been where you are.
For two years, I was stuck in a job I hated, barely making minimum wage and having no energy for the things or people I loved when I clocked out at 5. I was depressed, I was angry, I wasn’t writing, I wasn’t keeping in touch with my friends, and I definitely wasn’t investing in my family as the mother and wife that I wanted to be.
I had a lot of questions.
It took leaving that job to find the time to rediscover the love (and patience, and happiness) that I had lost—but it wasn’t easy.
Once I decided I wanted to work from home, I wondered how to start a business. How to maintain a business. How to market it. What to offer, and who to offer it to.
I wanted to seriously revamp my resume, and establish myself on LinkedIn. I wasn’t sure where to start. Job application after job application went out, and when I couldn’t ace an interview, I decided to change tactics.
When I started writing again, I wondered about the marketing and social media for that, too. How to prioritize time for my writing. What the best methods for publishing would be. How to revise my own work.
Maybe one of these stepping stones in my life makes you think of yourself. Maybe it’s where you are right now.
But you know what comfort you can draw from that?
These situations, and their seemingly-bottomless pit of questions, were just what I called them: stepping stones.
They can be for you, too.
