Hi! I'm McKenzie Lynn Tozan.

A poet, writer, book reviewer, and well-seasoned editor, I celebrate books and assist authors in taking their publishing dreams into their own hands.
Nicknamed first an “English Weapon” and dubbed “overbooked” in high school with my focus on creative writing, literary magazines, and book creation, I continued to grow more into that reputation in college, where I pursued a B.A. in English, a B.S. in Secondary English Education, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, with a concentration in Poetry.
While pursuing my degrees, I also learned what it meant to work from every angle of the desk in the publishing industry. I volunteered as a reader and line-editor; I worked as a Layout and Design Editor and Managing Editor; I designed book covers and represented countless literary presses, books, and magazines online; and I earned top-dollar paychecks for my copywriting in the publishing field and education industry.
All of these experiences deepened my love of books, publishing, and the literary scene, and it solidified my identity as a writer myself. I became increasingly passionate in books having the representation they deserved, people having easier access to the books they needed, and authors having all the opportunities they dreamed of to publish their work.
This passion came out in the form of launching my own business as a Book Strategist and Writing Coach, in which I have assisted new and emerging authors in establishing themselves online, and worked alongside some of today’s top #InstaPoets and New York Times’ bestselling authors. I also now host a free, online community of writers who want to go from being “struggling artists” to published and profitable authors, with my dream of seeing thousands more books beautifully published and represented every year becoming a firmer and firmer reality.

I know so many writers who are amazing at what they do, but they are struggling. They’ve submitted their work, tried their luck at winning publishing contests, and they’ve queried agents—only to see rejection and hear crickets. Some have already taken the leap to collaborate with a vanity press or self-publish on their own—only to invest thousands of dollars in exchange for a book they aesthetically aren’t proud of or which won’t sell

These are the people I lovingly refer to as the “starving artist” authors. They are incredibly talented, they’ve put the work into writing, and invested in that writing, but they continue to struggle, unable to find success as a profitable writer, and they are unsure of how to fix it.

If you identify as one of these writers, this group is here for you. Inside, I will share tips on growing a readership, self-publishing well, and marketing a successful book. Being a part of a community of like-minded writers, you will see the results you’ve looked for in all of your publishing attempts. You’ll finally find your personal path, no matter your genre, from “Starving Artist” Author… to Published and Profitable.
